The Cincinnati Stingers of the World Hockey Association ended the 1978-79 season with a record of 33 wins and 41 losses and 6 ties for 72 points, finishing fifth in the WHA. The team compiled a postseason mark of 1-2.
The Stingers scored 274 goals and surrendered 284. Peter Marsh netted 43 goals for Cincinnati, while Reg Thomas, Jamie Hislop and Robbie Ftorek each tallied 30 or more, too.
