The Appleton Foxes of the Midwest League ended the 1971 season with a record of 79 wins and 44 losses, finishing first in the league's North Division.

The Foxes scored 582 runs and conceded 467 runs. Lamar Johnson led Appleton with 18 home runs and drove in 97 runs, while leading all regular hitters by hitting .269. Rich Gossage topped the team with 18 wins, plus Ade Kenary, too added 15 or more wins, too Rich Gossage recorded a 1.83 ERA, best among qualifying pitchers.

Jerry Hairston, Brian Downing, Bruce Kimm, Bucky Dent, Lamar Johnson, Sam Ewing and Rich Gossage were all players from the 1971 Appleton Foxes who played in the Majors during their careers.
