The Capital City Bombers of the South Atlantic League ended the 1997 season with a record of 77 wins and 63 losses, finishing first in the league's Central Division.

The Bombers paced the league with just 495 runs allowed. Capital City scored 564 runs. Garrick Haltiwanger led the team with 14 home runs and recorded 73 runs batted in. Dan Ramirez topped all qualifying hitters on the roster with a .305 average. Ken Pumphrey paced the squad with 12 wins, while Grant Roberts recorded a 2.37 ERA, tops among regularly-used pitchers.
