The Cape Fear Crocs of the South Atlantic League ended the 1997 season with a record of 66 wins and 74 losses, finishing third in the league's North Division.

The Crocs scored 634 runs and allowed 630 runs. Jeremy Ware led Cape Fear with 16 home runs and drove in 77 runs. Jason Camilli paced batters with significant playing time by hitting .298. Keith Evans topped the squad with 12 wins and a team-best 2.61 ERA, tops among regularly-used pitchers.

Guillermo Mota, Brian Schneider, Andy Tracy, Scott Strickland, Christian Parker, Simon Pond, Yovanny Lara, Tim Young and Talmadge Nunnari were all players from the 1997 Cape Fear Crocs who played in the Major Leagues during their careers.
