The Charleston Rainbows of the South Atlantic League ended the 1989 season with a record of 72 wins and 68 losses, third in the league's South Division.

The Rainbows scored 573 runs and allowed 611 runs. John Kuehl led Charleston with 20 home runs and drove in 98 runs. Matt Witkowski paced batters with significant playing time by connecting at a .283 clip. Pedro Martinez and A. J. Sager topped the team with 14 wins each, while Pedro Martinez registered a 1.97 earned run average, best among regular hurlers.

Bryce Florie, Jeremy Hernandez, Luis Lopez, Pablo Martinez, Pedro Martinez, Nikco Riesgo and A. J. Sager were all players from the 1989 Charleston Rainbows who played in the Majors during their careers.
