The Columbia Reds of the South Atlantic League ended the 1961 season with a record of 70 wins and 65 losses, finishing fourth in the SAL.

The Reds scored 603 runs and conceded 598 runs. Marv Schultz led Columbia with 18 home runs, and William Shepherd walloped 15 or more also. Marv Schultz drove in 83 runs. Teolindo Acosta paced all regular hitters with a .343 average. Sammy Ellis and Héctor Maestri topped the squad with 10 wins each, while Sammy Ellis recorded a 1.89 ERA, best among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.

Jim Duckworth, Sammy Ellis, Héctor Maestri, Gus Gil, Ted Davidson, Vic Davalillo and Bobby Klaus were all players from the 1961 Columbia Reds who played in the Majors during their careers.
