The Durham Bulls of the Carolina League ended the 1982 season with a record of 80 wins and 56 losses, finishing second in the league's South Division.

The Bulls conceded 538 runs, the lowest total in the circuit. Durham plated 598 runs. Miguel Sosa paced the team with 25 home runs, while Tommy Thompson and Bob Tumpane walloped 15 or more, too. Miguel Sosa drove in 69 runs. Keith Hagman led all regular batters with a .303 average. Andre Treadway topped the squad with 11 wins, and Jeff Dedmon recorded a 2.75 ERA, leading regularly-used pitchers.
