The Dayton Dragons of the Midwest League ended the 2001 season with a record of 82 wins and 57 losses, finishing second in the league's East Division.

The Dragons tallied 709 runs and surrendered 613 runs. Samone Peters paced Dayton with 28 home runs, while Randy Ruiz, Mike Calitri, Stephen Smitherman and Wily Mo Peña each walloped 15 or more, too. Wily Mo Peña drove in 113 runs. Stephen Smitherman topped hitters with significant playing time by hitting .280. Ryan Mottl led the team with 15 wins, and Josh Hall earned a 2.66 ERA, leading regular hurlers.
