The Eugene Emeralds of the Pacific Coast League ended the 1972 season with a record of 79 wins and 69 losses, finishing first in the league's West Division.

The Emeralds scored 785 runs and allowed 731 runs. Joe Lis and Mike Schmidt paced Eugene with 26 home runs apiece., while Bob Spence, Bob Boone, Mike Rogodzinski, Mike Anderson and Bill Robinson each walloped 15 or more, too. Mike Schmidt drove in 91 runs. Bob Boone topped all qualifying hitters on the roster by hitting .308. Mike Wallace led the team with 16 wins and a team-best 3.46 ERA, tops among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.
