The Frederick Keys of the Carolina League ended the 1997 season with a record of 69 wins and 71 losses, finishing third in the league's North Division.

The Keys scored 670 runs and yielded 706 runs. Jay LeCronier led Frederick with 19 home runs, and Jim Foster walloped 15 or more, too. Rick Short drove in 72 runs and topped all regular hitters by hitting .319. Dan Reed paced the squad with 10 wins, while Eric Estes recorded a 3.47 ERA, best among qualifying pitchers.
