The Greensboro Hornets of the South Atlantic League ended the 1985 season with a record of 74 wins and 63 losses, finishing second in the league's North Division.

The Hornets topped the league with 813 runs. Greensboro allowed 710 runs. Bob Zambrano led the team with 19 home runs, and Pat Jelks walloped 15 or more as well. Pat Jelks and Chris Moritz each accounted for 87 RBI. Manny Jose paced hitters with significant playing time by connecting at a .323 clip. Odie Abril and Scott Skripko paced the squad with 12 wins each, while Brad Mettler recorded a 3.27 ERA, best among regular hurlers.

Eric Hetzel, Eddie Zambrano, Josías Manzanillo, Zach Crouch, Jim Corsi, Dan Gakeler and Daryl Irvine were all players from the 1985 Greensboro Hornets who played in the Majors during their careers.
