The Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League ended the 1997 season with a record of 76 wins and 64 losses, finishing second in the league's Central Division.

The Crawdads plated 748 runs, tops in the circuit. Hickory gave up 669 runs. Jeff Inglin paced the squad with 16 home runs, and Josh Fauske walloped 15 or more, too. Jeff Inglin drove in 102 runs and topped hitters with significant playing time by hitting .334. Joe Farley led the team with 14 wins, while Jason Lakman recorded a 3.91 ERA, leading regular hurlers.

Joe Crede, Jason Dellaero, McKay Christensen, Aaron Myette, Liu Rodríguez, Chris Heintz, Jason Bere, Rocky Biddle and Jesús Peña were all players from the 1997 Hickory Crawdads who played in the Major Leagues during their careers.
