The Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League ended the 2002 season with a record of 83 wins and 56 losses, finishing first in the league's Northern Division.

The Crawdads plated 747 runs, tops in the circuit. Hickory conceded 567 runs. Walter Young paced the squad with 25 home runs, and Chris Shelton walloped 15 or more, too. Walter Young drove in 103 runs and topped all qualifying hitters on the roster by hitting .333. Jeff Miller led the squad with 13 wins, while Ian Snell earned a 2.72 ERA, leading qualifying pitchers.
