The High Desert Mavericks of the California League ended the 2001 season with a record of 71 wins and 69 losses, finishing third in the league's South Division.

The Mavericks led the circuit with 837 runs, spearheaded by 158 home runs. High Desert surrendered 844 runs, most in the league. Kade Johnson paced the team with 21 home runs, while Lance Burkhart, Jeff Deardorff, Bill Hall and Bill Scott each walloped 15 or more also. Bill Scott drove in 102 runs and topped all regular hitters with a .283 average. Matt Parker paced the squad with 13 wins and a team-best 4.3 ERA, leading qualifying pitchers.

Bill Hall, Jim Rushford, Matt Childers, Luis Martínez, Dave Krynzel, Everett Stull and Dave Pember were all players from the 2001 High Desert Mavericks who played in the Majors during their careers.
