The Kinston Indians of the Carolina League ended the 1987 season with a record of 75 wins and 65 losses, finishing first in the league's South Division.

The Indians plated 737 runs and allowed 662 runs. Milt Harper, Kerry Richardson and Casey Webster paced Kinston with 20 home runs apiece. Casey Webster drove in 111 runs and topped hitters with significant playing time by hitting .318. Andy Ghelfi led the squad with 12 wins, while Charlie Scott recorded a 2.7 ERA, leading hurlers with significant time on the mound.

Albert Belle, Jim Bruske, Tony Ghelfi, Tommy Hinzo, Scott Jordan, Ever Magallanes, Rod Nichols, Mike Walker and Kevin Wickander were all players from the 1987 Kinston Indians who played in the Major Leagues during their careers.
