The Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest League ended the 1996 season with a record of 68 wins and 71 losses, finishing third in the league's East Division.

The Lugnuts plated 727 runs and gave up 739 runs, most in the league. Juan Rocha paced Lansing with 14 home runs and drove in 83 runs. Mark Quinn led all regular hitters by hitting .302. Blaine Mull topped the team with 15 wins, while Todd Thorn recorded a 3.12 ERA, leading qualifying pitchers.

José Santiago, Kevin Hodges, Matt Treanor, Jeff Wallace, Carlos Febles, Carlos Beltrán and Mark Quinn were all players from the 1996 Lansing Lugnuts who played in the Majors during their careers.
