The Lexington Legends of the South Atlantic League ended the 2005 season with a record of 81 wins and 58 losses, finishing first in the league's North Division.

The Legends led the league with just 574 runs allowed. Lexington scored 733 runs. Hunter Pence paced the team with 25 home runs, and Francisco Caraballo walloped 15 or more as well. Francisco Caraballo recorded 69 runs batted in and topped hitters with significant playing time by connecting at a .279 clip. Ronnie Ventura paced the squad with 13 wins, while Jimmy Barthmaier registered a 2.28 earned run average, best among regular hurlers.

Members of the 2005 Lexington Legends who played in Major League Baseball during their careers were J. C. Gutiérrez, J. R. Towles, Sammy Gervacio, Ben Zobrist, Felipe Paulino, Drew Sutton, Chad Reineke, Edwin Maysonet, Jimmy Barthmaier, Hunter Pence and Troy Patton.
