The Modesto A's of the California League ended the 1996 season with a record of 82 wins and 58 losses, finishing second in the league's North Division.

The A's scored 952 runs, best in the league. Modesto gave up 749 runs. D. T. Cromer walloped 30 home runs for the team, while Mike Neill, Miguel Tejada and David Newhan each swatted 15 or more, too. D. T. Cromer drove in 130 runs. Mike Neill led all qualifying hitters on the roster with a .339 average. Bill King topped the team with 16 wins, and Carl Dale earned a 4.29 ERA, best among hurlers with significant time on the mound.
