The Rockford Cubbies of the Midwest League ended the 1996 season with a record of 70 wins and 65 losses, finishing third in the league's Central Division.

The Cubbies scored 694 runs and surrendered 663 runs. Kelvin Barnes led Rockford with 11 home runs Terry Joseph drove in 94 runs. Scott Vieira paced all qualifying hitters on the roster by hitting .324. Jeff Yoder topped the squad with 12 wins and a team-best 3.45 ERA, tops among regularly-used pitchers.

Javier Martínez, José Molina, Ismael Villegas, Kyle Farnsworth, Bo Porter, Richie Barker and José Nieves were all players from the 1996 Rockford Cubbies who played in the Majors during their careers.
