The Shelby Pirates of the South Atlantic League ended the 1980 season with a record of 58 wins and 80 losses, finishing fourth in the league's North Division.

The Pirates plated 617 runs, worst in the circuit, and allowed 762 runs. Jim Felt paced Shelby with 17 home runs, and Ken Ford walloped 15 or more as well. Ken Ford recorded 75 runs batted in. Charles McGehee topped all regular batters by hitting .290. José DeLeón led the squad with 10 wins and a team-best 4.82 ERA, leading regular hurlers.

Joel Skinner, Ron Wotus, Doug Frobel, Cecilio Guante, Rafael Belliard, Chris Green, José DeLeón and Mike Bielecki were all players from the 1980 Shelby Pirates who played in the Majors during their careers.

Joe Frisina served as manager.
