The Stockton Ports of the California League ended the 1996 season with a record of 79 wins and 61 losses, finishing third in the league's North Division.

The Ports plated 767 runs and yielded 686 runs. Drew Williams paced Stockton with 24 home runs, while Scott Krause and Mike Rennhack walloped 15 or more, too. Mike Rennhack drove in 103 runs and topped all regular batters by hitting .320. Steve Woodard and Joe Wagner led the squad with 12 wins each, and Steve Woodard recorded a 4.03 ERA, leading pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.

Steve Woodard, Travis Smith, Mickey Lopez, Danny Klassen, Horacio Estrada, Greg Mullins, Greg Martinez, Geoff Jenkins and Dion James were all players from the 1996 Stockton Ports who played in the Major Leagues during their careers.
