The Altoona Rail Kings of the North Atlantic League ended the 1996 season with a record of 36 wins and 42 losses, finishing fourth in the NAL.

The Rail Kings scored 365 runs and conceded 408 runs. Willie Roland drove in 39 runs. Billy Reed led batters with significant playing time by connecting at a .323 clip. Ray Schmittle and Carlos Mirabal topped the team with 7 wins each, while Stan Scales recorded a 2.86 ERA, tops among qualifying pitchers.

Eric Yelding played in Major League Baseball during his career, the only member of the Altoona Rail Kings to do so.

Virgil Christof served as manager.
