The Decatur Commodores of the Midwest League ended the 1971 season with a record of 54 wins and 70 losses, finishing fifth in the league's South Division.

The Commodores plated 447 runs and allowed 580 runs. Chuck Erickson accounted for 54 RBI. Larry Milbourne paced batters with significant playing time by connecting at a .301 clip. John D'Acquisto topped the squad with 10 wins and a team-best 3.13 earned run average, leading qualifying pitchers.
