The Flint Generals of the International Hockey League ended the 1977-78 season with a record of 36 wins and 34 losses and 10 ties for 82 points in the IHL's Northern Division.
The Generals led the league with 364 goals. Flint allowed 381 goals, most in the circuit. Rick Cabalka scored 43 goals for the squad, while Cliff Cox, Terry Smith, Mike Clarke and Jim Johnston each netted 30 or more, too. Jim Johnston contributed 77 assists, and Randy Ireland recorded a 4.7 goals against average, leading regular goalies.
Doug Carpenter coached the team. The 1977-78 Flint Generals lost in the in 1st Round of the playoffs.
