The Mariners paced the league with 925 runs, ignited by 264 home runs. Seattle surrendered 833 runs. Ken Griffey crushed 56 homers for the team, while Alex Rodriguez, Jay Buhner, Paul Sorrento, Russ Davis, Dan Wilson and Edgar Martinez each walloped 20 or more also. Ken Griffey drove in 147 runs. Edgar Martinez topped all regular hitters by hitting .330. Randy Johnson led the squad with 20 wins, and Jamie Moyer and Jeff Fassero added 15 or more victories as well Randy Johnson recorded a 2.28 ERA, tops among regularly-used pitchers.

Lou Piniella coached the team. The 1997 Seattle Mariners qualified for the playoffs as a division winner.
