The Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League ended the 1979 season with a record of 12 wins and 2 losses and 2 ties for 26 points, finishing first in the CFL's Western Conference. The team compiled a postseason mark of 2-0.
The defense proved to be a force, as the Eskimos topped the circuit with just 219 points allowed. Edmonton kept the scoreboard humming with 495 points. Warren Moon passed for 2,382 yards, and Tom Wilkinson spent time under center, too. Waddell Smith snagged 74 passes for 1,214 yards. Brian Kelly was targeted regularly also.
Jim Germany ran for a team-best 1,324 yards.
The opportunistic defense pounced on 55 turnovers. Larry Highbaugh intercepted 10 errant tosses from the opposition.
Hugh Campbell coached the team. The 1979 Edmonton Eskimos won the Grey Cup.
