The Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League ended the 1997 season with a record of 13 wins and 3 losses, finishing first in the NFL's West Division of the American Football Conference. The team compiled a postseason mark of 0-1.

The defense proved to be a force, as the Chiefs paced the league with just 232 points allowed. Kansas City kept the scoreboard humming with 375 points. Greg Hill carried the ball for a team-leading 550 yards, while Marcus Allen also buoyed the ground attack.

Elvis Grbac passed for 1,943 yards, and Rich Gannon spent time under center, too. Andre Rison grabbed 72 passes for 1,092 yards, while Kimble Anders provided receiving help as well.

The opportunistic defense led the way with 34 turnovers. Mark McMillian intercepted 8 opponent throws. Dan Williams topped the defensive unit with 10.5 quarterback sacks, part of an overall team total of 54 sacks.

Marty Schottenheimer coached the team. The 1997 Kansas City Chiefs lost in the Division Playoff.
