The Asheville Tourists of the South Atlantic League ended the 1983 season with a record of 64 wins and 80 losses, finishing fifth in the league's North Division.

The Tourists scored 735 runs and allowed 802 runs. Tracy Dophied paced Asheville with 27 home runs, while Hank Clark, Mark Bailey and Larry Kiesling each walloped 15 or more, too. Tracy Dophied drove in 79 runs. Mike Stellern led batters with significant playing time by connecting at a .312 clip. Charlie Kerfeld topped the team with 16 wins and a team-best 2.91 earned run average, tops among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.

Members of the 1983 Asheville Tourists who played in Major League Baseball during their careers were Roger Samuels, Mark Bailey and Charlie Kerfeld.
