The Chattanooga Lookouts of the Southern League ended the 1979 season with a record of 75 wins and 69 losses, finishing third in the league's West Division.

The Lookouts plated 698 runs and surrendered 704 runs, most in the league. Joe Charboneau paced Chattanooga with 21 home runs, while Sal Rende and Angelo LoGrande walloped 15 or more as well. Joe Charboneau accounted for 78 RBI. Albert Rausch led hitters with significant playing time with a .291 average. Sam Spence topped the squad with 12 wins, and Todd Heimer recorded a 3.68 ERA, leading regular hurlers.
