The Chattanooga Lookouts of the Southern League ended the 1996 season with a record of 81 wins and 59 losses, finishing second in the league's West Division.

The Lookouts plated 687 runs and conceded 637 runs. Ricky Magdaleno and Aaron Boone paced Chattanooga with 17 home runs apiece. Aaron Boone drove in 95 runs. Billy Hall led hitters with significant playing time with a .295 average. Chris Reed and Curt Lyons topped the squad with 13 wins each, while Curt Lyons recorded a 2.42 ERA, leading regularly-used pitchers.
