The Charleston Rainbows of the South Atlantic League ended the 1985 season with a record of 78 wins and 61 losses, finishing third in the league's South Division.

The Rainbows plated 697 runs and allowed 591 runs. Brent Gjesdal paced Charleston with 19 home runs, and Brad Pounders walloped 15 or more, too. Randy Byers drove in 94 runs and topped all regular hitters by connecting at a .319 clip. Mike Costello led the team with 16 wins and a team-best 2.61 ERA, leading qualifying pitchers.

Players from the 1985 Charleston Rainbows who spent time in the Majors during their careers included Roberto Alomar, Sandy Alomar, Joe Bitker, Randy Byers and Rodney McCray.
