The Charleston Rainbows of the South Atlantic League ended the 1987 season with a record of 68 wins and 71 losses, fifth in the league's South Division.

The Rainbows scored 610 runs and allowed 641 runs. Jim Tatum recorded 72 runs batted in. Carlos Baerga led all regular batters by connecting at a .305 clip. Matt Maysey topped the team with 14 wins and a team-best 3.18 ERA, best among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.

Jim Austin, Carlos Baerga, Ricky Bones, Doug Brocail, Matt Maysey, Warren Newson, Omar Olivares, Jim Tatum and Rafael Valdez were all players from the 1987 Charleston Rainbows who played in the Major Leagues during their careers.
