The Charleston Rainbows of the South Atlantic League ended the 1987 season with a record of 68 wins and 71 losses, finishing fifth in the league's South Division.

The Rainbows scored 610 runs and allowed 641 runs. Jim Tatum recorded 72 runs batted in. Carlos Baerga led all regular batters by connecting at a .305 clip. Matt Maysey topped the team with 14 wins and a team-best 3.18 ERA, best among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.

Warren Newson, Ricky Bones, Jim Austin, Jim Tatum, Doug Brocail, Matt Maysey, Rafael Valdez, Carlos Baerga and Omar Olivares were all players from the 1987 Charleston Rainbows who played in the Major Leagues during their careers.
