The Delmarva Shorebirds of the South Atlantic League ended the 1998 season with a record of 81 wins and 61 losses, finishing second in the league's North Division.

The Shorebirds plated 678 runs and conceded 598 runs. Franky Figueroa paced Delmarva with 13 home runs and accounted for 94 RBI, while leading batters with significant playing time by connecting at a .276 clip. Jay Spurgeon topped the squad with 11 wins and a team-best 2.65 ERA, leading qualifying pitchers.

Rick Bauer, Eddy Garabito, Luis Matos, Darnell McDonald, Matt Riley, Jay Spurgeon, John Stephens and Jayson Werth were all players from the 1998 Delmarva Shorebirds who played in the Majors during their careers.
