The Delmarva Shorebirds of the South Atlantic League ended the 1997 season with a record of 77 wins and 65 losses, finishing second in the league's North Division.

The Shorebirds plated 668 runs and yielded 625 runs. Calvin Pickering paced Delmarva with 25 home runs, and Ryan Minor walloped 15 or more, too. Ryan Minor drove in 97 runs. Calvin Pickering topped all qualifying hitters on the roster by connecting at a .311 clip. Americo Peguero led the squad with 11 wins, while Maximo Heredia registered a 2.13 earned run average, leading hurlers with significant time on the mound.
