The Delmarva Shorebirds of the South Atlantic League ended the 1996 season with a record of 83 wins and 59 losses, finishing first in the league's North Division.

The Shorebirds scored 673 runs and surrendered 534 runs. Orlando Cabrera led Delmarva with 14 home runs Carlos Adolfo drove in 71 runs. José Fernández paced hitters with significant playing time by connecting at a .273 clip. Javier Vázquez topped the team with 14 wins and a team-best 2.69 earned run average, best among regularly-used pitchers.

Members of the 1996 Delmarva Shorebirds who played in Major League Baseball during their careers were Michael Barrett, Orlando Cabrera, José Fernández, José Macias, Troy Mattes, Jeremy Powell, Brian Schneider, Fernando Seguignol, J. D. Smart and Javier Vázquez.
