The Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League ended the 2004 season with a record of 85 wins and 55 losses, finishing first in the league's North Division.

The Crawdads plated 758 runs and gave up 659 runs. Jon Benick walloped 32 home runs for Hickory, while Adam Boeve and Bobby Kingsbury swatted 15 or more, too. Jon Benick drove in 104 runs and topped hitters with significant playing time by hitting .328. Josh Shortslef and Wardell Starling led the squad with 11 wins each, and Juan Carlos Oviedo earned a 3.12 ERA, leading pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.

Tom Gorzelanny, Chris Demaria, Juan Carlos Oviedo, Paul Maholm, David Lundquist, Matt Capps, Nyjer Morgan, Craig Stansberry and Josh Sharpless were all players from the 2004 Hickory Crawdads who played in the Major Leagues during their careers.

Dave Clark served as manager.
