The Hagerstown Suns of the South Atlantic League ended the 1998 season with a record of 81 wins and 60 losses, finishing first in the league's North Division.

The Suns led the circuit with just 567 runs allowed. Hagerstown scored 712 runs. Bobby Cripps paced the squad with 29 home runs, while Lorenzo Bagley, Michael Young and Greg Morrison each walloped 15 or more also. Bobby Cripps drove in 88 runs. Vernon Wells topped all regular batters by hitting .285. John Sneed paced the team with 16 wins, and Clayton Andrews registered a 2.28 earned run average, best among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.

Clayton Andrews, Brian Bowles, Leo Estrella, César Izturis, Josh Phelps, Vernon Wells and Michael Young were all players from the 1998 Hagerstown Suns who played in the Majors during their careers.
