The Knoxville Smokies of the South Atlantic League ended the 1962 season with a record of 86 wins and 54 losses, finishing second in the SAL.

The Smokies led the league with just 570 runs allowed. Knoxville scored 672 runs. Chico Salmon paced the squad with 16 home runs and drove in 82 runs, while leading all regular batters by connecting at a .330 clip. Clifford Adams topped the team with 16 wins, and Joel McDaniel added 15 or more wins, too Tom Timmermann registered a 2.66 earned run average, best among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.
