The Lynchburg Hillcats of the Carolina League ended the 2003 season with a record of 76 wins and 59 losses, finishing second in the league's Northern Division.

The Hillcats led the league with 670 runs, fueled by 93 home runs. Lynchburg yielded 585 runs. Chris Shelton paced the squad with 21 home runs, while Walter Young walloped 15 or more, too. Walter Young drove in 87 runs. Nate McLouth topped batters with significant playing time by connecting at a .300 clip. Ian Snell paced the squad with 10 wins and a team-best 3.33 ERA, best among qualifying pitchers.
