The Lynchburg Hillcats of the Carolina League ended the 2005 season with a record of 78 wins and 62 losses, finishing second in the league's North Division.

The Hillcats scored 741 runs and allowed 752 runs, most in the circuit. Pat Magness led Lynchburg with 24 home runs and drove in 92 runs, while leading hitters with significant playing time by connecting at a .308 clip. Derrick Van Dusen topped the squad with 11 wins and a team-best 4.24 ERA, best among regular hurlers.

Players from the 2005 Lynchburg Hillcats who spent time in the Majors during their careers included Craig Stansberry, Josh Sharpless, Neil Walker, Jonathan Albaladejo and Nyjer Morgan.
