The Memphis Chicks of the Southern League ended the 1981 season with a record of 77 wins and 66 losses, finishing second in the league's West Division.

The Chicks tallied 749 runs and surrendered 714 runs. Jerry Fry paced Memphis with 24 home runs, while Roy Johnson walloped 15 or more, too. Roy Johnson drove in 90 runs.
