The Piedmont Boll Weevils of the South Atlantic League ended the 1996 season with a record of 72 wins and 66 losses, finishing third in the league's Central Division.

The Boll Weevils scored 540 runs and allowed 561 runs. Jon Cornelius led Piedmont with 12 home runs Mark Raynor drove in 62 runs and topped batters with significant playing time with a .304 average. Jason Kershner paced the squad with 11 wins, while Randy Knoll recorded a 2.09 ERA, best among hurlers with significant time on the mound.
