The Salem Rebels of the Carolina League ended the 1968 season with a record of 85 wins and 55 losses, finishing first in the league's West Division.

The Rebels led the circuit with 657 runs. Salem surrendered 593 runs. Charles Howard paced the squad with 27 home runs, while Johnny Jeter and Dave Arrington walloped 15 or more, too. Charles Howard accounted for 94 RBI. Wilbert Hammond topped all regular hitters with a .307 average. Dick Hendrix paced the squad with 11 wins, and Bob Settle recorded a 2.92 ERA, leading qualifying pitchers.

Johnny Jeter, Denny Riddleberger, Ron Slocum, Frank Taveras, John Lamb, Dave Cash and Lou Marone were all players from the 1968 Salem Rebels who played in the Majors during their careers.
