The El Paso Diablos of the Texas League ended the 1987 season with a record of 75 wins and 59 losses, finishing first in the league's West Division.

The Diablos topped the league with 893 runs, spearheaded by 189 home runs. El Paso surrendered 813 runs, most in the circuit. LaVel Freeman and Joe Mitchell led the team with 24 home runs apiece., while Darryel Walters, Jesus Alfaro and Tim Casey each walloped 15 or more, too. LaVel Freeman drove in 96 runs and topped hitters with significant playing time by hitting .395. Dan Murphy paced the squad with 10 wins, and Brad Wheeler recorded a 3.56 ERA, best among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.
