Disch Field was named for William 'Billy' Disch, the baseball coach at Texas University for almost 30 years. Built in 1928 for $250,000, it was the home field for the University of Texas baseball team. Lou Gehrig hit a 611-foot, spring training home run over the CF plateau in March 1929.
