The Slag Pile
Location: Birmingham, ALSixth Street between First Avenue & the Great Southern RR Tracks.
Capacity: 600 grandstand
The Slag Pile was built in the 1880's, near the Southern RR tracks. The grandstand seated just 600 fans, but many others watched the action from atop the slag pile of the Alice Furnace, just beyond the plank outfield fence.
