The Asheville Tourists of the Southern League (Dixie Association) ended the 1971 season with a record of 90 wins and 51 losses, finishing second in the league's East Division.

The Tourists led the league with 674 runs, powered by 131 home runs. Asheville surrendered 474 runs. Ken Hottman walloped 37 home runs for the squad, and Vic Correll added 15 or more, too. Ken Hottman drove in 116 runs. Donald Anderson paced all regular batters by connecting at a .305 clip. Jim MacDonnell topped the team with 17 wins and a team-best 2.48 earned run average, tops among qualifying pitchers.
