The Asheville Tourists of the South Atlantic League ended the 1981 season with a record of 74 wins and 68 losses, finishing second in the league's North Division.
The Tourists scored 773 runs and yielded 666 runs. Dan Murphy led Asheville with 18 home runs, while Tom Dunbar and George Gomez walloped 15 or more also. Dan Murphy drove in 88 runs and topped all qualifying hitters on the roster by connecting at a .369 clip.
