The Chattanooga Lookouts of the Southern League ended the 1981 season with a record of 67 wins and 75 losses, finishing fourth in the league's West Division.

The Lookouts scored 660 runs and surrendered 713 runs. Sal Rende led Chattanooga with 25 home runs, and George Cecchetti walloped 15 or more also. Sal Rende recorded 93 runs batted in. Kevin Rhomberg paced hitters with significant playing time with a .366 average. John Bohnet topped the squad with 13 wins and a team-best 3.38 ERA, best among regular hurlers.
