Pynchon Park

Dimensions (Left, Center, Right): No fences until 1908; 450-500-450 est
.; 340-400-327 (1961). The park was first used for baseball in 1853. The site would be used for pro baseball for more than a century. Between 1867 and 1893, trotters and pacers raced on a mile-long track in the park. An 1885 map shows base ball stands on the edge of the race course, about 1,000 feet from the race track grand stand. A new grandstand was built in 1908, and fences were built to enclose the field. A 1911 map shows a sizeable grandstand, with a small bleacher section on the 3B side. The catcher faced SSE. A 1950 map shows a completely rebuilt steel grandstand. The grandstand was more conventionally curved than League Park's grandstand had been. The catcher faced south-SW. A restaurant now occupies the site.
